Let’s think about that. How well do you actually know your teams?
We are not talking about what car they drive, or how they like their coffee, or what their middle name is.
Rather, how do they approach a problem? Who in your team is more of a creative thinker? Who naturally enjoys being more planned and structured?
Take this simple example – different approaches to building a chair.
If I bought a self assembly chair, I may bring it home and empty the the contents of the box carefully and check that each single piece is inside and then carefully I follow the instructions systematically step by step to build my chair. This could be one approach.
You might be the type of person who brings home the same box , but rips open the packaging and dives straight in and starts to construct the chair using your imagination, saying “Well I’ve sat on plenty of chairs and I know what they look like, so why should I follow the instructions?”
There is no right or wrong, no good or bad. It’s all about your preferences to how you approach problems.
But what does this mean when you have a variety of ideas and experiences working together in the team? How do you embrace your differences and celebrate your strengths?
ADP Advisory Services acknowledges difference, and works towards creating an inclusive environment that allows everyone’s contribution to be understood, appreciated and recognized.
